The Discipline

Functional

— A Scientist's Approach · Pilates built on evidence

A method of movement, not just a class. It's built on five disciplines: Pilates, Physics, Anatomy, Research and Education. Every session is built around what your body needs that day, and what it needs long term, rehabilitation after injury or surgery, core and postural strength, or simply moving well for years to come. It's part of a longer practice of longevity, built one session at a time.

New to Pilates or returning after a long break: both are common starting points, and the pace is set by you.

What we train
i.
Core Stability & Strength
The body's inbuilt system for protecting the spine can become difficult to access, due to postural deviations, injury, surgery, or simply not knowing how. This work retrains it.
ii.
Posture
Postural change happens slowly and without your noticing — unwinding it takes the same patience it took to form.
iii.
Functional Movement
Training the movements that matter most in daily life, for lasting musculoskeletal health.
iv.
Balance
Balance can be trained — supporting independence, grandchildren, travel, and the activities that make up a life.
v.
Pain Management
Persistent pain often becomes linked to specific movement patterns. This work helps you build new ones.
vi.
Muscle Release
Learning to let go of tight, overworked muscles, so the body can move and rest more freely.

Types of classes

Initial Assessment (60 MIN)

A one-on-one session to understand your body, your goals, and any injuries or conditions to work around.

Private 1:1 (60 MIN)

One hour of individual attention, ideal if you're new to Pilates, working through an injury, or want focused, personal guidance.

Group 1:2 (60 MIN)

A shared session for two, well suited to friends, partners or family members training together, each on their own program.

Group 1:3 (75 MIN)

One instructor, three students, each guided through their own program. No two people are the same, and neither are the exercises.

Your first session
i.

No referral needed

You can book directly. If you're coming from a GP, physiotherapist or surgeon, bring anything they've given you and we'll work with it.

ii.

We start by listening

Your first session is always an assessment, never a class. We go through your history, what hurts, what you want back, and how you move.

iii.

What to wear

Comfortable clothing you can move in, and grip socks. We have socks available if you forget. Nothing else to bring.

iv.

Then a plan

You leave knowing which format suits you, how often to come, and what the first few weeks will look like.
