Q
The Discipline

Yoga classes in Kew

Yoga unites body, mind and breath through movement, breath control and focused attention. It is often associated with flexibility, but it extends well beyond exercise, building self-awareness, concentration and balance. Regular practice supports mobility and helps prevent stiffness.

Consistency is central. Through regular practice, yoga teaches us to notice our thoughts, emotions and physical limits without judgement. It asks for both commitment and acceptance: the willingness to challenge ourselves, and the sense to pause, adapt or let go.

Yoga is less a “workout” than a “work-in”. Its principles of presence, balance and intention carry into life beyond the mat.

Types of classes

Indra-Kaye, in practice
Vinyasa · 45 minutes
Flowing · Breath-led
A flowing style where movement is linked to the breath. Postures move continuously from one to the next, with sequences that may include Sun Salutations, standing postures, balances and twists. Pace and intensity vary by class.
Yin · 45 minutes
Still · Long-held
A slow, meditative style of long-held, mostly passive postures, typically 3 to 5 minutes or more. Gravity and body weight do the work, aiming to release the connective tissues around the joints and support mobility. The stillness also gives time to observe sensations, thoughts and emotions without reacting to them.
